Is 25 Nigeria’s New Cut-Off for Success?

I’ve seen many Nigerians aged 22–25 who feel they’ve already failed. Some are still in school, others struggle to find work or barely cover transport costs. Then you scroll social media and see people your age buying cars, building homes, travelling abroad and sharing six-figure incomes. Our parents settled and raised families by 25, but today’s reality is different. Living costs are high and jobs are scarce. There’s huge pressure to “make it” early. But is 22–25 really too late to succeed? Why do so many feel behind before their 25th birthday? Is the economy the main issue or are we setting unrealistic benchmarks? If you’re older than 25, what advice would you give?

What factors do you think contribute to so many Nigerians feeling they've missed the 25-year mark for success?

True, many face tight job market and high expectations, plus rising cost of living that slow down early achievements.

It seems social media highlights a few extravagant success stories, but that might not reflect the reality of most young Nigerians.

I'm not convinced 25 is any sort of universal deadline for success; achievements can come at any age.

Rather than stressing over social media benchmarks, try setting realistic monthly goals and developing marketable skills at your own pace.
