Edo Governor’s Aide Arrested for Alleged Assault on Police Officer in Benin City
A close associate of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, was arrested after allegedly attacking a police officer on duty in Benin City. Sources say Kelly Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, confronted an officer along the Upper Sakponba corridor in Ikpoba-Okha LGA last Saturday. The dispute escalated and the officer was reportedly injured. The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest, stating the suspect is now in custody and will face prosecution. The police spokesperson emphasised that no one is above the law and urged residents to respect officers performing their duties. Kola Edokpayi, president of the Talakawas Rights Group, condemned the incident. He praised the officer’s professionalism and advised that any concerns about police conduct be addressed through official channels, especially given the suspect’s political connections.
