Luis García Plaza Takes Charge at Sevilla as Adams and Ejuke’s New Boss

Luis García Plaza Takes Charge at Sevilla as Adams and Ejuke’s New Boss

Sevilla FC have appointed Madrid-born coach Luis García Plaza as their new head coach on a deal running until 2027. He succeeds Matías Almeyda, who was relieved of his duties earlier this week. Plaza began his managerial career with Unión Deportiva Altea. He later led Deportivo Alavés back into La Liga and ensured their survival in the top flight before departing in December 2024. Super Eagles forwards Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke will now train and compete under Plaza’s guidance as he aims to restore Sevilla’s winning form.

Jumping from Almeyda to Plaza without a transitional phase risks unsettling the players rather than building on the previous coach's groundwork.

Sevilla management should outline a clear timeline and support network for Plaza, allowing his methods to take root before judging early results.
