UK Court Clears Diezani Alison-Madueke of Corruption, She Credits God

Diezani Alison-Madueke has been acquitted by the Southwark Crown Court in London of all corruption charges brought against her over alleged bribes and conspiracy. After 46 hours of jury deliberation, the former petroleum minister described the verdict as a long-awaited victory. She thanked God for vindicating her name after nearly eleven years of legal battles and scrutiny. Mrs Alison-Madueke was first arrested in October 2015 and faced six charges in 2023, including accepting at least £100,000 from oil and gas interests. She denied any wrongdoing throughout her trial, which began in January alongside two co-defendants. While celebrating her freedom, she acknowledged ongoing corruption and money laundering cases against her in Nigeria and said she would speak about her plans for the future.
