Ekiti Governor Awards Full Scholarship and ₦2m to World Spelling Bee Champion Damilola Adeolu
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has awarded a full scholarship and ₦2 million to 14-year-old Damilola Adeolu after she won two gold medals at the World Spelling Bee Championship in Shanghai, China. Damilola, an SS1 student of St Lawrence Metropolitan College in Ado Ekiti, had previously won the national and African championships before representing Africa at the global competition. The state will cover her education from SS2 through secondary school and provide monthly welfare support, books, computers and other learning materials. The governor also gave ₦2 million to her school and ₦1 million to her coach. He said the state would support Damilola’s future development and help ensure her achievement inspires other young people in Ekiti and across Nigeria.
