Afenifere Defends Sunday Igboho, Urges Unity in Fighting Terrorism

The pan-Yoruba organisation Afenifere has publicly backed Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) for his recent operations against kidnappers and criminal gangs in Yorubaland. The group stressed that protecting citizens’ lives must remain the top priority and warned against politicising the fight against terrorism. Afenifere also praised President Bola Tinubu for sending the state police bill to the National Assembly. It urged federal and state lawmakers, along with governors, to fast-track the legislation in the national interest. In its statement, Afenifere cautioned those threatening Igboho over his campaign, clarifying that his actions target criminal elements rather than any ethnic group. The statement followed Igboho’s ultimatum in Oyo State demanding the release of kidnapped victims and his warning that residents aiding criminal gangs would face serious consequences, while law-abiding non-indigenes have nothing to fear.

How do you think Afenifere's support for Sunday Igboho will influence wider community efforts against kidnappers?

True, backing Igboho could strengthen local collaboration and shared strategies against kidnappers.

It's notable they stress protecting citizens first, but I wonder if this move risks being hijacked for political influence later.

I respect the aim to fight terrorism, but can we be sure operations led by Igboho won't breed more vigilantism?

Make we encourage community-led vigilante training under proper oversight and share intelligence with local police for safer neighbourhoods.
