Anok Yai Channels the Black Madonna in Sculptural Balenciaga at Met Gala 2026
Anok Yai stunned at the Met Gala in a custom all-black silk taffeta Balenciaga gown by Pierpaolo Piccioli. The mermaid silhouette and oversized hooded collar created a “negative visual space,” making her upper body look like a freestanding art bust. Her complexion was given a molten bronze finish by makeup artist Sheika Daley, complete with wax-like tear tracks evoking the Mater Dolorosa. Hairstylist Sasha Glasser sculpted a prosthetic wig inspired by a Met sculpture, shaping glossy waves to mimic carved bronze.
