Suspected Herdsmen Storm Ondo Village in Benue, Residents Flee 48 Hours After Otukpo Killings
Residents of Ondo in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area, have abandoned their homes after suspected armed herders launched a new raid. The attackers struck before dawn, firing indiscriminately and driving villagers into the bush and nearby towns. Local media report casualties but the exact number remains unconfirmed. Disturbing images from the scene show victims lying in pools of blood. Angry youths blocked the Otukpo-Agatu Road with burning tyres, demanding urgent government and security agency action. They accused authorities of failing to protect Akpachi, Otukpo-Nobi and now Ondo communities from repeated attacks. Calls to the police public relations officer went unanswered. The governor has condemned the violence and ordered increased patrols and collaboration with neighbouring states. Many fear this latest raid may be retaliation for the recent killing of the state MACBAN chairman.
