Rebirth Movement Condemns NAFDAC’s Sachet Alcohol Ban

Rebirth Movement Condemns NAFDAC’s Sachet Alcohol Ban

The Rebirth Movement Nigeria has accused NAFDAC’s Director-General of enforcing an unlawful ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottles. The group says the move infringes the National Alcohol Policy, ignores a presidential directive, and contradicts a House of Representatives resolution calling the ban “anti-people.” Leaders warn the ban could spark civil unrest, cost thousands of jobs, hurt legitimate businesses, and push consumers toward illicit brews. They are calling on the Secretary to the Government to suspend enforcement immediately and engage stakeholders in evidence-based dialogue.

Does anyone understand why NAFDAC ignored those directives and chose to enforce the sachet alcohol ban anyway?

It seems odd for NAFDAC to bypass both the National Alcohol Policy and a House resolution without clear explanation.

I'm not convinced the Rebirth Movement has the full picture; there might be valid reasons behind NAFDAC's decision.

A practical next step could be calling for a joint review committee between NAFDAC, brewers, and legislators to clarify policy inconsistencies.
