Lagos Launches ILERA EKO EasyPay and Enforces ‘No ILERA EKO, No Service’ Policy

Lagos Launches ILERA EKO EasyPay and Enforces ‘No ILERA EKO, No Service’ Policy

Lagos State Health Management Agency has intensified efforts to deepen health insurance enrolment. At a first-quarter media briefing in Ikeja, Dr Emmanuella Zamba highlighted reforms under the ILERA EKO scheme. The agency now enforces mandatory insurance for all MDAs with public interfaces through a ‘No ILERA EKO, No Service’ policy. LASHMA has restructured its sales department with Cluster Managers and Area Commanders. It also launched ILERA EKO EasyPay, a flexible payment plan for low- and middle-income earners in the informal sector. Residents can now make incremental contributions to reduce financial barriers. The agency trained 72 journalists with support from the International Society of Media in Public Health. It also ran an ILERA EKO essay competition, naming 12 public school students as ambassadors to promote the scheme. LASHMA says these steps will support universal health coverage across Lagos State and improve access to quality care.

Mandating health insurance for all MDAs sounds ambitious, but is there clarity on how underfunded units will manage premium payments?

I no too see why government must force every MDA enroll. E fit create extra bureaucracy instead of simplifying access.

Agencies can start by training staff on the EasyPay system while setting up feedback channels to resolve enrolment challenges fast.
