Ex-Governor Bello Fraud Trial: Witness Ties ₦950m Maitama Property to Ali Bello
A prosecution witness told the FCT High Court how 35 Danube Street in Maitama was bought with dollars worth ₦950 million. The trial centres on former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and co-accused facing a ₦110.4 billion money laundering and breach of trust charge. The witness, a lawyer with the FCDA, said he was asked in January 2022 to run due diligence on the property. He prepared and handed over title documents in the name of White Tree Nigeria Limited after instructions from Ali Bello. The full payment was made in US dollars. Under cross-examination, he confirmed he never met one of the defendants and that Shehu Bello gave him the assignment order. The court also heard defence applications to stay proceedings and challenge jurisdiction. Justice Maryanne Anineh adjourned for rulings on these applications and set June dates to resume the trial.
