Bello El-Rufai’s Deleted Tweet Sparks Talk of 2027 Presidential Run — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Hon Mohammed Bello El-Rufai has signalled his intention to run for Nigeria’s presidency. He posted in Hausa on his verified X handle: “A’a Takwara na. Ni ban butulci. Zan iya Presidency?” (“I will run for the Presidency. I am not joking. Can I contest for the Presidency?”). The tweet was deleted after a heavy online backlash. Critics questioned his performance as a first-term federal lawmaker and pointed to his habit of sharing controversial posts only to remove them later. Bello El-Rufai is the son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and was elected to the House of Representatives in 2023 on the APC platform. He has not yet clarified his political ambitions for 2027.
