3 Compelling Reasons to Participate in Holy Communion

“This is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:24) 1. It fosters a grace-focused heart. We stand saved by God’s gift, not our efforts. As Ephesians 2:8–9 reminds us, grace alone rescues us. Hymnist Horatio Spafford captured it: “My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more.” 2. It keeps us sensitive to sin. Paul warns that partaking unworthily brings judgment (1 Corinthians 11:28–29). The remedy isn’t avoiding the cup but genuine confession followed by thankful participation. 3. It points us to Christ’s return. As He said, “I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until that day…” (Mark 14:25). Each service anticipates the great Marriage Supper of the Lamb in heaven (Revelation 19:7). Will you be there?

So true, Communion moments remind me how grace alone reshapes our hearts and paths.

The idea that Communion alone fosters a grace-focused heart seems to overlook how ongoing discipleship and community life shape our faith too.

I get your point, but can't Communion itself be a key practice shaping ongoing discipleship and community bonds in faith?

I'm not convinced a weekly ritual can fully capture the freedom we already have in Christ's finished work.

To deepen our communion experience, try preparing with intentional prayer and reflection on Scripture before each service.
