NNS Beecroft Hands Over Rescued Ghanaian Stowaways to Immigration Service

NNS Beecroft Hands Over Rescued Ghanaian Stowaways to Immigration Service — 1 of 7
1 / 7

Nigerian Navy Ship NNS BEECROFT handed over three suspected Ghanaian stowaways to the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Apapa parade ground in Lagos. The men were rescued from the merchant vessel MT ANATOLIA while it was berthed at Dangote Terminal. Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu said the suspects—Armah Peter (26), Amisah Daniel (22), and Amoh Michael (25)—hid in the rudder compartment on March 28. They had earlier lived and fished in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for about a year before boarding the vessel to attempt an illegal journey to Europe. The handover is part of joint efforts between security agencies to curb illegal migration and enhance maritime safety. The Nigeria Immigration Service will complete judicial procedures before transferring the suspects to the Ghanaian Embassy.

What do you think motivated the Navy to rescue and hand over those Ghanaian stowaways so publicly in Lagos?

Makes sense that the Navy wanted to show firm stance against illegal stowaways and protect maritime safety openly.

I agree, they likely chose a public handover to signal transparency and earn public trust in their actions.

The report highlights rescue and handover, but it's odd there's no detail on their legal processing or any follow-up actions.

Surely these men should face questioning, but isn't immediate handover to immigration a bit too straightforward without initial inquiry aboard the vessel?

To improve transparency, authorities could publish a simple timeline of events from rescue at Dangote Terminal to transfer at Apapa parade ground.
