PCN Seals 598 Illegal Drug Outlets in Kaduna State
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria carried out a four-day enforcement exercise in ten local government areas of Kaduna State. Inspectors visited 828 premises, including 123 pharmacies, 631 patent medicine shops and 74 unlicensed outlets. They sealed 598 facilities for operating without valid licences, dispensing prescription medicines without authorisation and engaging in unauthorised clinical practices. Two vendors were arrested for serious regulatory breaches, while operators with minor infractions received compliance directives. The council reported that 28% of outlets met standards and only 9% were wholly illegal. Regulators warned the public against patronising unlicensed drug vendors, noting that improper drug use can pose serious health risks. Enforcement efforts will continue across other states to strengthen drug safety.
