L’Équipe Apologises to Jérémy Doku Over Presenter’s Remarks on His Baby’s Birth

Doku had told reporters he would return home for the arrival of his baby. He made it back to London in time for the birth of his son, Praise, on Monday. The national team doctor confirmed mother, father and child are all doing well and Doku will rejoin the squad this week. L’Équipe presenter France Pierron sparked outrage when she called the decision “disgusting” and claimed a father is “completely useless” at childbirth. Her remarks provoked criticism from former players and commentators, including a fellow L’Équipe pundit and international athletes, who highlighted the importance of fathers at births. Pierron has since apologised on social media and L’Équipe issued a statement distancing itself from her comments. The outlet said the remarks did not reflect its values and apologised to Doku and its audience.
