Nigeria on the Brink: Resisting One-Party Rule

Nigeria on the Brink: Resisting One-Party Rule

Democracy survives on choice and competing ideas. Yet, Nigeria is showing clear signs of one party overpowering all others and stifling dissent. When a single party controls the presidency, legislature and many state governments, elections become a formality. Accountability fades and leaders grow comfortable, leaving citizens with broken promises and poor services. Dominant party influence can compromise independent institutions. The judiciary, electoral bodies and anti-corruption agencies risk becoming tools of power rather than guardians of fairness. Critics are sidelined and many Nigerians feel speaking up is futile or risky. Reversing this drift requires stronger opposition, transparent electoral reforms and an engaged civil society. Democracy demands many voices. Silence now is a surrender of our hard-won freedoms.
