Presidency Calls Peter Obi’s Channels TV Interview a ‘PR Disaster’

The Presidency has described Peter Obi’s recent Channels Television interview as a “PR disaster,” accusing the former Labour Party presidential candidate of making false claims and refusing to accept the outcome of the 2023 election. In a post on Monday, presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga said Obi’s interview did not revive his 2027 ambitions. He criticised Obi’s movement across political parties and rejected Obi’s comparison of his political journey with President Bola Tinubu’s. Onanuga argued that Tinubu maintained a progressive ideology while moving through different party platforms. He also said Obi’s claim that he was denied victory in the 2023 election ignored the results declared by INEC and the rulings of the courts. The presidential spokesman urged Obi to move on from the 2023 polls, while Obi has maintained that he believes the election did not reflect the will of voters.

Calling an interview a PR disaster is strong language; the real issue is whether the allegations are backed by clear evidence.

Disagreement over the 2023 election does not automatically make every statement in an interview false. Each claim should stand or fall on facts.

Both sides should publish the exact interview excerpts and responses, so people can compare the claims without relying on political labels.
