Cuba Runs Out of Oil, Residents Resort to Firewood Amid Blackouts

Cuba Runs Out of Oil, Residents Resort to Firewood Amid Blackouts

Cuba is facing severe power outages after its government confirmed that national oil reserves have been exhausted. The crisis has triggered fresh electricity cuts and rare street protests on the outskirts of Havana. Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy said supplies previously sent by Russia have run out. He blamed the ongoing shortages partly on long-standing US sanctions that continue to restrict fuel imports. Images from Havana show families cooking over open wood fires as frustration grows. This latest round of blackouts adds to months of instability in Cuba, disrupting homes, businesses and public services.

How long did Cuba's national oil reserves hold out before these blackouts and street protests began?

Agreed, the blackouts and protests flared up almost immediately once reserves dried up.

Hard to believe reserves hit zero so suddenly without warning signs while protests only just started outskirts of Havana.

Seriously, no warning before everything dried up? That sudden blackout feels like a vanishing act gone wrong.

Local groups might issue guidelines on efficient wood stoves and safe storage to prevent accidents during prolonged blackouts.
