Speakers’ Forum Hails Passage of State Police Bill as Milestone for Security Reform
The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures has welcomed the National Assembly’s approval of the State Police Bill as a major step toward stronger community policing and genuine federalism. Mr Dennis Guwor, Chairman of the forum and Speaker of the Delta Assembly, said devolved policing would improve response times and address local security challenges. He added that state assemblies will review the bill carefully and hold public hearings before taking a final position. The Constitution Alteration Bill to empower states to establish their own police services was passed by the Senate after clause-by-clause consideration. The House of Representatives had earlier approved the measure on June 11.
