Niger Delta Group Urges Tinubu to Sack NDDC Boss Over Links to Fugitive Sylva
The Niger Delta Integrity and Democracy Network has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Dr. Samuel Ogbuku as Managing Director of the NDDC. They argue his close ties to former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva—now wanted in a treason and terrorism case—pose a national security risk. According to the group, Ogbuku served as Sylva’s Chief of Staff and secured his NDDC appointment through that relationship. They say this “godfather network,” which even includes relatives in key NDDC roles, threatens to divert funds meant for regional development. The statement highlights allegations that as much as ₦45 billion in NDDC contracts may have been linked to funding for the alleged coup plot. While Ogbuku and NDDC management deny any wrongdoing, the network demands an immediate removal, a full forensic audit by EFCC and security agencies, and a purge of all Sylva-linked influences. They urged traditional rulers, youth groups and other stakeholders to back their call until the commission is cleansed of compromised leadership.
