Navy Arrests Alleged Car-Snatching Ring Leader in Abuja

Navy Arrests Alleged Car-Snatching Ring Leader in Abuja — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Operatives at Naval Base Abuja have arrested a key suspect in a car-snatching syndicate terrorising the FCT. The 39-year-old suspect, a physics graduate, was stopped at Jere while heading to Kaduna. He had posed as a Nigerian Correctional Service inspector to cover his activities. During questioning, the suspect confessed to stealing over 50 vehicles across Abuja. He named two accomplices based in Zaria, Kaduna State, and said each stolen car fetched between ₦1 million and ₦1.2 million on the black market. The Naval Base commander confirmed the handover of the suspect and exhibits to the police. Security agencies are now pursuing the fleeing accomplices for full prosecution.

I wonder what evidence led to stopping a physics graduate posing as a correctional inspector. Could there be more inside info we don't know?

Are you asking if the Navy discovered an academic background used for impersonation or if there's undisclosed proof in the arrest?

It's odd how a physics graduate ended up leading a car-snatching ring while posing as a correctional service inspector.

Authorities should review screening procedures at checkpoints and verify identities to prevent criminals posing as officials from carrying out more abductions.
