AFAN Elects New Edo State Executive, Calls for Unity and Equitable Support for Farmers

AFAN Elects New Edo State Executive, Calls for Unity and Equitable Support for Farmers

At its Edo State elections in Benin City on Monday, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) chose a new executive team to lead for the next three years. Leaders cautioned against unhealthy rivalry and urged unity for collective progress. Deputy National President Asuquo Asuquo stressed that leadership is about service and sacrifice. He said there is no need to struggle for positions when government will locate farmers wherever they are. Newly sworn-in chairman Joel Usiagu pledged to unify all factions and ensure that government-backed interventions reach genuine farmers at the grassroots. He advocated cluster farming and joint vigilance to tackle insecurity and improve productivity. Usiagu also promised a fair distribution of resources, moving away from the previous “swallow and chop” approach. Key members of the new 14-member team include Tony Alius, Dr Ezekiel Oseimwan, Osas Ojeikere and Valentine Uwaka.

It's interesting they stress unity but no details on how they'll prevent rivals shutting others out.

Unity sounds nice, but setting up equitable support across diverse communities has always been AFAN's biggest challenge.

They should map local needs then allocate funds based on priority, ensuring transparency at each stage to build trust.
