FIFA Defends Infantino as UEFA Pressure Grows Over Scrapped Investment Plan

FIFA has strongly defended president Gianni Infantino, rejecting allegations about his personal life as false and accusing unnamed critics of running a coordinated campaign against him and football’s world governing body. The response follows growing opposition from UEFA and some European football associations after FIFA abandoned its proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise structure. The plan would have moved FIFA’s commercial and ticketing rights into a new company, with a reported 21% stake offered to private investors. UEFA says it has lost confidence in Infantino, while Norway Football Federation president Lise Klaveness has called for his resignation. FIFA insists Infantino retains a democratic mandate from its member associations and says it will challenge inaccurate reporting and unsupported claims vigorously. Infantino continues to have backing outside Europe, including unanimous support from CAF’s 54 member associations, as well as public support from Mexico and CONMEBOL.
