Amb Lotanna Leaves ADC for NDC, Aligns with Peter Obi’s Vision
A major political shift has occurred in Anambra State as Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside Peter Obi. Lotanna said his move is rooted in an ideological commitment to Obi’s plans for restoring democracy and boosting Nigeria’s economy. He accused the ruling party of engineering internal crises in opposition ranks to keep credible challengers out of the 2027 elections and to block Obi’s growing influence. He reaffirmed his own ambition for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat, noting it now forms part of a broader strategy to support Obi’s anticipated presidency from within the National Assembly. This defection is among at least 18 high-profile lawmakers leaving the ADC for the NDC. The trend follows the departures of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the ADC and marks a significant realignment in Nigeria’s opposition ahead of 2027.
