Bandits Kill Catholic Catechist, Bride-to-Be and Four Others After 120 Days in Captivity
Armed bandits have killed six captives, including a Catholic catechist and bride-to-be Peace Lami Williams. They were seized on February 9 from Kutaho and Kugir communities in Aribi Ward, Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State. The attackers initially demanded N30 million and four motorcycles. Community members paid ransoms and sold valuables, but the bandits later increased their demands. Despite months of negotiations, six victims were killed in captivity. Women and children abducted during the raid were released on Easter Sunday. Among them was the pregnant wife of the catechist, who later gave birth after her return. Two released captives are now receiving medical treatment in Kachia. The killings have renewed urgent calls for intervention from the state government, federal authorities and security agencies. Residents demand stronger protection for rural communities and swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
