Argentine Footballer Lucas Trejo Loses Wife and Children in Venezuela Quake
Argentine striker Lucas Trejo faced the worst tragedy after last week’s powerful earthquakes struck La Guaira. Trejo spent days combing through debris for his wife, Yanina, and their children, Aarón and Ainhoa, but rescuers eventually confirmed they had all perished and that the family home was completely destroyed. Trejo was training in Caracas when the twin quakes — the strongest to hit Venezuela in over a century — hit without warning. Teammates and friends appealed for heavy machinery to aid the search, but despite tireless efforts, nothing remained of the beachfront property. Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira has expressed deep sorrow, posting a tribute to Trejo’s family and pledging support for him. The disaster claimed more than 1,400 lives and left thousands missing. Another young football talent, 18-year-old Yimvert Berroteran, also died, the national team confirmed.
