Judge Denies Permanent Cyberstalking Injunction in Megan Thee Stallion Case

Judge Denies Permanent Cyberstalking Injunction in Megan Thee Stallion Case

A federal judge has refused to impose a permanent restriction on blogger Milagro Cooper’s online activity, despite a jury finding her liable in a defamation and emotional distress suit brought by Megan Thee Stallion. Court documents show the jury awarded the rapper $75,000 in damages over false statements and a circulated deepfake video. The judge ruled that this damages award fulfilled legal remedies in the case. The court noted there was no evidence Cooper attempted to contact or physically approach the artist. It also warned that an injunction barring future speech would raise constitutional concerns under the First Amendment.

It seems odd the judge denied an injunction despite the jury finding Cooper liable and awarding damages to Megan.
