Russia Announces May 8–9 Truce as Ukraine Proposes May 5–6 Ceasefire Ahead of Victory Day

Russia has declared a unilateral ceasefire with Ukraine from May 8 to 9 for its annual Victory Day celebrations. Moscow warned of a massive missile strike on Kyiv if the truce is broken and urged civilians and foreign diplomatic staff to leave the city promptly. Ukraine’s president proposed a separate ceasefire from May 5 to 6 and called on Russian leaders to take meaningful steps toward ending the conflict.
