Race Into the Future: Lagos to Host Premier Grand Horse Race for Tourism Growth
Lagos State will hold its first-ever Grand Horse Race from September 11 to 13, 2026 at the National Stadium in Surulere. The three-day festival aims to boost tourism and stimulate economic growth across the state. The event combines competitive races with music, fashion, food and cultural exhibitions. Organisers expect over 30,000 local and international visitors alongside about 100 horses, including traditional equestrians from around Nigeria. Officials say the race will create business opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and tour companies. It also aims to position Lagos as Africa’s leading destination for sports and cultural tourism. This initiative aligns with the state’s strategy to drive economic development through public-private partnerships and youth engagement. Organisers hope the maiden edition will become an annual highlight on the global equestrian calendar.
