Edo Central Medical Practitioners Demand Enhanced Funding and Reforms at 2026 ANPMP Conference

The Edo Central chapter of the Association of Nigeria Private Medical Practitioners held its 2026 AGM, Scientific Conference and Award Night in Ekpoma on April 16. Attendees included government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, allied health professionals, students and members of the public. In his opening address, Dr Andrew Eigbedion stressed the need for improved collaboration and increased budgetary allocations for private healthcare, noting that private facilities handle over 70 percent of consultations in the region. Hon. Dr Richard Edosa highlighted the State House of Assembly’s commitment to new health laws and the establishment of the Edo State Health Regulation and Monitoring Agency. Speakers commended private practitioners for innovation and professionalism and advocated for strategic partnerships between the regulatory agency and ANPMP. Guest lectures focused on strengthening eye health in primary care and scalable neonatal interventions to reduce infant mortality. Awards were presented to distinguished practitioners, and the event closed with cultural performances, cake cutting and musical entertainment, marking one of the largest gatherings of healthcare professionals in Edo Central Zone.

Abeg, pumping more funds won't fix shortages if allied health pros and students still lack training facilities and clear oversight paths.

Practitioners should draft a phased implementation plan with milestones for each reform, ensuring regular progress reports and inclusive stakeholder reviews at every stage.
