Nigerian Youth Engineer Advocates Affordable Housing at UN World Urban Forum
Engr. Martins Egwakhide represented Nigeria at the 13th UN World Urban Forum in Baku. This UN-Habitat event brings together global policymakers, urban planners, and development experts to tackle rapid urbanisation and housing challenges. He joined discussions on affordable housing and sustainable infrastructure alongside Nigerian youth leaders, including Hon. Osawemwenhio Uwagboe of the Nigerian Youth Parliament. Key talks focused on financing models and public-private partnerships to address Nigeria’s 28 million unit housing deficit. Egwakhide met officials from UN-Habitat and engaged with Anar Guliyev, Azerbaijan’s State Committee chair, on knowledge sharing and urban planning best practices. He praised the Renewed Hope Housing Programme for its potential to boost housing access and economic growth. His participation highlights growing youth involvement in international policy forums and underscores the importance of global platforms in shaping practical solutions to Nigeria’s urban development challenges.
