US Delegation Presses Cuba for Sweeping Reforms under Trump

US Delegation Presses Cuba for Sweeping Reforms under Trump

A high-level US delegation has met with Cuban government officials to demand broad economic and political changes. The visit marks the first landing of a US government aircraft in Cuba outside Guantanamo Bay since 2016. US representatives urged measures to boost private-sector growth, attract foreign investment and improve competitiveness. They discussed introducing Starlink internet services, compensation claims for seized assets and human rights issues, including the release of political prisoners. The US side also warned of tightening fuel restrictions and even possible military options if reforms do not move forward. Cuban leaders described the talks as respectful but insisted lifting the energy blockade remains a top priority.

When you mention obstacles, are you focusing on Cuba's internal political structure or the influence of existing sanctions?

It's notable that this is the first US government aircraft landing outside Guantanamo since 2016, which could be more symbolic than substantive.

Are we sure these US demands won't just undermine Cuba's sovereignty under the guise of boosting private sector?

Local entrepreneurs might seize new opportunities if any real private-sector boost happens, but dependable regulation will be crucial to protect small businesses.
