Onitsha Monarch Backs Flutterwave to Fuel Fintech Growth in Southeast

Onitsha Monarch Backs Flutterwave to Fuel Fintech Growth in Southeast

The Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, welcomed Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola and endorsed fintech as a driver of economic growth, innovation and youth empowerment in Nigeria’s Southeast. Achebe praised the region’s long-standing trading culture and urged combining traditional commerce with modern financial technology. He highlighted the potential benefits for traders in markets like Onitsha Main Market, including better access to digital payments and new business opportunities. Youth development was a key theme. The monarch called for technology training to be integrated into community programmes so young Nigerians can move from job-seeking to building scalable digital ventures. To strengthen this alliance, Achebe invited Agboola to speak at Ahmadu Bello University next January, illustrating a growing partnership between traditional leadership and the tech sector.
