Lagos State Elevates Mental Wellbeing in Workplace Safety Agenda

Lagos State Elevates Mental Wellbeing in Workplace Safety Agenda

The Lagos State Safety Commission has urged employers to broaden safety standards to include mental health. It marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work by calling for stronger psychosocial support at jobsites. This year’s theme highlights how excessive workload, poor communication and weak reward systems undermine worker wellbeing. The commission recommends clear roles, manageable tasks and a supportive culture in every organisation. Officials also advocate flexible work arrangements, work-life boundaries and counselling services. They say these measures will reduce burnout, boost productivity and create safer, healthier workplaces for all.

Start by training managers to recognize stress indicators and provide basic counseling resources. A simple awareness workshop could make a real difference.
