Conceicao: We’re Not Obliged to Pass to Ronaldo

Conceicao: We’re Not Obliged to Pass to Ronaldo — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Portugal winger Francisco Conceicao has dismissed suggestions that teammates feel forced to feed the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo after a disappointing draw with DR Congo that saw Ronaldo touch the ball just 25 times. Speaking ahead of their critical World Cup group match against Uzbekistan, Conceicao said: “There is no need or obligation to pass to him. I pass to whoever is best unmarked.” He stressed that Ronaldo’s relentless hunger and work ethic remain an inspiration for the squad. Conceicao urged the team to bounce back quickly as they look to secure victory and keep their campaign on track. Portugal will face Colombia on June 28 to round off their group stage fixtures.

Do you think Conceicao's comments will change the team's approach to Ronaldo in their next match?

So you're wondering if they'll alter how often they look for Ronaldo during build-up play?

It's odd that Ronaldo only touched the ball 25 times, yet he still felt central to every play.

I'm not convinced blaming teammates is fair when a draw reflects flaws across the entire side, not just service.

They should focus training drills on quick build-up play instead of prioritizing passes to one star player.
