Senator Kabiru Gaya Leaves APC for ADC in Kano State

According to media reports, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya has resigned from the All Progressives Congress in Kano State and joined the African Democratic Congress. In his resignation letter dated April 5, 2026, addressed to the APC ward chairman in Gaya Local Government, Gaya said his decision followed “careful reflection and wide consultation.” He noted the move aligns with his constituents’ interests and his personal convictions. He expressed gratitude to the APC for the platform and camaraderie it provided over the years. His letter was formally acknowledged by Ward Chairman Adam A. Adam. Speaking to journalists, Gaya confirmed he remains close to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna. He said they will work together to strengthen the ADC in Kano State. His defection follows that of former APC gubernatorial candidate Nasiru Gawuna last week.

True, it seems he sees better grassroots structure in ADC and a clearer path to influence policy in Kano.

Hmm, I'm not convinced we can pin his move on one thing so soon. Maybe we should see how it plays out first.

It's odd that a senator switches parties just before upcoming elections without detailing his reasons in the letter.

Leaving one party doesn't guarantee better governance; maybe he's chasing political survival rather than focusing on constituents' welfare.

Voters should track his performance in ADC carefully and compare it with his record in APC before making any judgment.
