Warri Wolves Release Six Players After Pre-Season Loss to Rangers

Warri Wolves Release Six Players After Pre-Season Loss to Rangers

Warri Wolves coach Hassan Abdallah has released six players after the club's 1-0 pre-season defeat to Rangers in Asaba. Abdallah said the friendly was used to assess players' performances, tactical understanding and ability to fit into the squad. He declined to name those released, saying it could harm their prospects and market value at their parent clubs. With the 2026/27 NPFL season expected to begin in August, the coach said the rebuilding team needs stronger financial and logistical support from the Delta State Government.

Do supporters think one pre-season friendly gives the coach enough evidence to release six players, or was this assessment ongoing?

Exactly, one friendly alone feels too small a sample; the decision likely reflects a wider review.

The coach appears to be prioritising tactical understanding and squad fit, not simply the 1-0 result against Rangers.

Releasing players after a loss may look harsh, but the report says the friendly was an assessment exercise rather than a verdict on one scoreline.

Warri Wolves should quickly clarify the remaining squad roles internally, so the players retained can focus on the coach's tactical expectations.
