Van Dijk’s Injury-Time Header Seals 2-1 Merseyside Win as Salah Bids Farewell

Van Dijk’s Injury-Time Header Seals 2-1 Merseyside Win as Salah Bids Farewell — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Liverpool came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park and keep their Champions League hopes alive. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for the Reds in what looks set to be his final Merseyside derby before his announced summer exit. Everton thought they had equalised early in the second half, but the goal was ruled out for offside. With injury time looming, Virgil van Dijk rose highest to head in a Dominik Szoboszlai corner and secure all three points. The win moves Liverpool back into the top four with five games remaining.

Absolutely, losing a talisman like Salah could wobble their vibe, but sometimes that spurs an unexpected team surge.

I get your point, but Liverpool have shown resilience before; losing Salah might not tip their mindset drastically.

Everton seemed unlucky with that disallowed goal, but Liverpool's late winner still hides persistent defensive lapses that worry me.

I dey think say celebrating that header distracts from the fact Everton looked sharper overall for long stretches of the game.

Given Liverpool's slim goal difference, they should focus on solid defensive setups and counterattacks to secure Champions League qualification.
