Lawrence Okolie Fails Anti-Doping Test, Paris Bout With Tony Yoka in Jeopardy
Lawrence Okolie failed an anti-doping test days before his scheduled heavyweight clash with Tony Yoka at the Adidas Arena in Paris. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association reported an adverse finding ahead of the event, casting doubt on the entire fight card. His promoters confirmed the result and said a further update will follow in due course. If the Okolie–Yoka bout is cancelled, multiple fights set for the same night could also be affected. Okolie is a former WBO cruiserweight champion who moved up to heavyweight and currently holds the WBC Silver title. The 33-year-old had also held the WBC bridgerweight crown earlier this year, and his showdown with the 2016 Olympic gold medallist was highly anticipated.
