NSIB Blames Repeated Boat Accidents on Life Jacket Non-Use and Unsafe Night Navigation

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau says repeated boat accidents are largely linked to poor compliance with safety rules, especially the failure to wear life jackets and unsafe navigation. NSIB Director-General Capt. Alex Badeh Jr said aviation operators typically act on investigation recommendations, helping to prevent similar accidents from happening again. He said the same level of compliance has not been seen on Nigeria's waterways. The bureau is engaging the National Inland Waterways Authority and other stakeholders on persistent risks, including navigating around sunset and at night when visibility is poor.
