Edo Police Recover Pistol as Motorcycle Riders Flee Okpella Stop-and-Search

Police in Edo State have recovered a serviceable Italian-made pistol with its breech number allegedly filed off during a stop-and-search operation on the Auchi–Okene Expressway in Okpella, Edo North. The police said officers of the Safer Highway Unit intercepted two unidentified men on a motorcycle at about 11 p.m. on August 1, 2026. The passenger allegedly offered the officers money before they requested a search of both occupants. According to the command, the passenger threw away his bag and ran into a nearby bush, while the rider fled on the motorcycle. Officers searched the abandoned bag and reportedly found the pistol. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects.
