Video Shows Police Greeting Armed Bandits at Zamfara Checkpoint

A video has emerged of armed men riding past a police checkpoint between Zamfara and Sokoto states. Officers are seen directing the convoy and saluting heavily armed gunmen on motorcycles. In the clip, the person filming warns in Hausa that bandits are moving freely, but another passenger quickly asks him to stop talking. Despite a 2019 peace deal with militants, attacks and kidnappings continue. Many Nigerians now call for a state police force, accusing the federal police of negligence and of collecting bribes instead of fighting crime.
