Nurses Set July 29 Deadline for FG, Threaten Three-Day Nationwide Warning Strike
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Federal Health Institutions Sector, has given the Federal Government a 15-day ultimatum over alleged victimisation of its members at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Barnawa, Kaduna. The union accused the hospital management of ignoring a previous Memorandum of Understanding and engaging in anti-union practices. It said three nurses were demoted and its unit chairman was suspended after helping stranded nursing students. NANNM demands the immediate reinstatement of the suspended chairman, reversal of the demotions, full implementation of the MoU and an investigation into the alleged abuses. The union described the chairman’s humanitarian action as commendable, not punishable. While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, the association warned that failure to meet its demands by July 29 will force it to begin a three-day nationwide warning strike.
