Nigeria Mourns Ex-NFF President Ibrahim Galadima, Dies at 74

Ibrahim Galadima, who led the Nigeria Football Federation from 2002 to 2006, passed away in Kano at 74. The Federation confirmed his death as tributes poured in from across the football community. He rose through the ranks in Kano State, chairing the local football association in the late 1970s and serving as executive chairman of the state sports council in the early 1980s. He also held commissioner roles in sports, works, housing and transport. As first vice-president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Galadima played a key part in hosting the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was also one of the founding figures of Kano Pillars Football Club. Current NFF leaders remember him as a mentor of integrity and wisdom whose reforms and guidance shaped generations of sports administrators in Nigeria.

Tributes sound heartfelt, but we should remember any shortcomings in his administration before placing him on a pedestal.

Maybe current NFF officials can honour his legacy by investing in grassroots coaching and local academy support.
