Karnataka High Court Withdraws Charges Against Nigerian Man, Orders Self-Deportation

Karnataka High Court Withdraws Charges Against Nigerian Man, Orders Self-Deportation

The Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru has ordered 42-year-old Onuoha Agha to leave India. He faced allegations of cheating, forgery and conspiracy. According to local reports, Agha agreed to return to Nigeria immediately. The court noted he had been held in detention for two years and withdrew all criminal proceedings against him. He was initially charged under the Foreigners Act, the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court directed immigration authorities to start deportation procedures at his expense and asked him to obtain emergency travel documents from the Nigerian Consulate.

Agreed, it feels inconsistent to clear him of serious crimes yet insist he leaves the country.

I share your doubts, this move feels contradictory: dropping charges but forcing deportation doesn't fully add up.

It's odd that all charges were dropped but a self-deportation was still demanded after two years of detention.

I'm not convinced the withdrawal reflects innocence—deportation suggests unresolved legal or diplomatic complications.

His legal team should coordinate with Nigeria's consulate, verify travel documents, and secure a medical check before his departure from Bengaluru.
