Pantami Exits Gombe APC Primaries, Alleges ‘Coronation’ and Electoral Breaches
Former communications minister Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primaries in Gombe State. He cited alleged breaches of the Electoral Act 2026 and irregularities in the party’s nomination process. Pantami’s decision followed the controversial adoption of Jamilu Gwamna as the APC’s consensus candidate. The endorsement came after a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, prompting objections from aspirants who had purchased nomination forms. Describing the process as a “coronation,” Pantami argued that no valid consensus can occur without the express consent of all aspirants who completed nomination requirements. He insisted the APC’s method violated legal provisions that mandate either unanimous consensus or direct primaries. The fallout has deepened internal divisions in Gombe APC as the party gears up for the 2027 elections. Political observers warn the dispute could undermine party unity and influence the outcome in the state.
