Tuggar Urges Global Action on Sahel Security at 2026 Oslo Forum
Nigeria’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, urged renewed regional and international efforts to end armed conflicts in the Sahel. He warned that ongoing insecurity threatens lives, undermines stability, and stalls progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Speaking at the 2026 Oslo Forum, Amb. Tuggar highlighted the power of preventive diplomacy and sustained dialogue. He praised the forum’s role in uniting mediators, policymakers, and stakeholders to forge practical pathways to peace. The annual gathering, hosted by Norway’s Foreign Affairs Minister alongside the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, drew over 150 mediators, conflict parties, and experts. Sessions covered humanitarian law, maritime security, and regional crises across West Africa, the Middle East, and beyond, with leaders such as Kenya’s President William Ruto and China’s Special Envoy for the Middle East in attendance.
