Osimhen’s First Super Eagles Call-Up: Boots Request Ended in Snub

Osimhen’s First Super Eagles Call-Up: Boots Request Ended in Snub — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Victor Osimhen has opened up on an awkward moment from his first Super Eagles camp. After starring at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015—where he won both the Golden Boot and Silver Ball—Osimhen earned his first senior call-up in 2017 under coach Gernot Rohr. Eager to show respect, he asked teammate Kelechi Iheanacho if he could collect his boots. Iheanacho gave him a room number, but the occupant bounced Osimhen straight back out. Iheanacho was furious when he heard what happened and immediately defended the young striker. The moment now stands out as a humble chapter in Osimhen’s rise to becoming one of Nigeria’s biggest stars.

What do you think Osimhen felt when his simple boots request got overlooked during his first Super Eagles camp?

True, that must have been frustrating for him, feeling a small request ignored on his big moment.

He probably felt overlooked and frustrated, like his needs didn't matter then. It must have stung badly.

It's striking that a rising star fresh off a Golden Boot win would have such an awkward snub over a basic equipment request.

I'm not convinced this boot snub was that serious; teams always have priorities beyond individual gear requests.

Young talents should carry their own basic kit if national setups can't guarantee gear, it avoids awkward moments and shows readiness.
