NDLEA Busts 306 Suspects, Dismantles Meth Lab in Ogun State

NDLEA Busts 306 Suspects, Dismantles Meth Lab in Ogun State

Between January and May this year, NDLEA operatives in Ogun State arrested 306 suspected drug offenders. They also uncovered and dismantled a secret methamphetamine production lab. The agency’s commander reported that 272 men and 34 women were arrested. Of those, 140 individuals—136 men and four women—received counselling and rehabilitation support. Seized drugs included 2,518kg of cannabis, 86.74kg of methamphetamine, various quantities of cocaine and tramadol, 44.9 litres of codeine, and other illicit substances. Last year, the command arrested 771 suspects and confiscated even larger volumes of these narcotics. Authorities warned that traffickers now set up local labs and urged communities to report unusual chemical odours or excessive generator use. Ogun’s first lady also called on parents to monitor their children and support ongoing anti-drug efforts.

Right? Those numbers really shine a light on the social and economic struggles fueling meth involvement.

The fact that 272 men were arrested versus only 34 women raises questions about gender roles in this drug network.

You dey celebrate the arrests, but focusing on bust numbers alone misses how communities get real support.

Local leaders should partner with NDLEA to monitor suspicious activities and also offer rehabilitation options for offenders.
